Newly Acquired Islanders Assigned Numbers

Yesterday, Garth Snow sent shock waves through the NHL when he went out and made trades for not one but two top-4 defensemen in Nick Leddy from the Chicago Blackhawks and Johnny Boychuk from the Boston Bruins.  Well, earlier today reports came out as to what numbers the newly acquired players would be wearing as Islanders.

Boychuk, who wore number 55 with the Bruins will continue wearing number 55 with the Islanders.  Aaron Ness who had worn number 55 agreed to give up that number and will now be number 25 as an Islander.

Meanwhile, Leddy who wore number 8 with the Blackhawks wasn't fortunate enough to be able to keep that number as it is taken by top Islanders defense prospect Griffin Reinhart.  So, because of that, Leddy had to switch his number and he will now wear number 2.
