Today, former Islanders head coach and Islanders Hall of Famer Al Arbour is celebrating his 82nd birthday.
Arbour coached the Islanders for 1499 games achieving 739 wins in that period of time. The team appeared in 5 straight Stanley Cup finals under Arbour winning 4 straight, also winning 19 straight playoff series which is an NHL record to this day. It wasn't until November of 2007 that then Islanders coach Ted Nolan invited Arbour back to coach 1 more game to hit the magical 1500 number. On November 3rd, 2007 Arbour graced the Islanders bench at the Nassau Coliseum one more time and in comeback fashion the Islanders defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins to give Arbour career win 740.
We here at savetheisles would like to wish Mr Arbour a very Happy Birthday and hope that if his health allows him that he will make one last appearance at the Coliseum at some point this season.
