In a stunning turn, the Islanders also acquired Nick Leddy from the Blackhawks in exchange for goalie Anders Nilsson, defenseman Ville Pokka, and defenseman TJ Brennan.
Last season for Chicago, Leddy had 31 points in 82 games. At only 23, the ceiling for Leddy is unknown right now. Leddy possess great puck moving ability and should be an anchor for the Islanders on the second powerplay unit this season, potentially growing into a top powerplay guy in this league as he matures.
Like Boychuk, Leddy also has a ton of playoff experience having played in 54 playoff games already in his young career. He has managed to put up 10 points in those games. The low point total could be explained by a decrease in ice time when you are blocked by guys like Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook. Leddy also owns a Stanley Cup ring as well which is invaluable for a team like the Islanders.
Leddy also provides great insurance for the Islanders if Lubomir Visnovskys health doesn't hold up for him this year. He also allows the Islanders to move Frans Nielsen off the point on the powerplay.
