Isles Victorious In Shootout Over Sharks

Tonight, our Islanders extended their season opening winning streak to four games defeating the San Jose Sharks by a score of 4-3 in a shootout.  Here are some my notes from the game:

-Coming into today, if you would've told me that the Islanders would out shoot the Sharks 45-23 tonight I would've told you that you were crazy.  After seeing it though, color me impressed!  We were in control for large portions of the game and were just unfortunate to run into a hot goalie in Stalock otherwise it would've been over a lot sooner than it was.

-Good to see Bailey score, if he can keep up his play into next month maybe we can start thinking he finally turned the corner we've been patiently waiting for.

-Over 20 minutes of ice time for Brian Strait is way to much.  I'm not sure what Capuano is thinking rolling him out there so often.  With de Haan back he is by far our worst defenseman and as such should receive sheltered ice time.

-The captain stays hot!!!  His shootout move tonight was simply unbelievable.  The stick handling ability he displayed was just out of this world.

-Good to see Leddy put another one to the back of the net.

-The officiating was absolutely atrocious tonight!

-Hopefully Grabovski isn't out for to long, his line with Strome and Nelson has been very effective.

-Beautiful execution by Tavares, Nielsen and Okposo on Okposo's tying goal.

I know it is only a little over a week into the season, but the Islanders are right now the number one team in the NHL.  Again, just four games but boy does that have a nice ring to it!  After overcoming a tough test tonight, it doesn't get any easier as the Islanders head into Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Next Game: Saturday 7:00pm @ Pittsburgh
