Isles Power Play Impresses In 5-3 Victory

Tonight, the Islanders got their season started off right as they defeated the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 5-3.  Here are some of my notes from the game:

-Brock Nelson was in total beast mode tonight.  For what many people are saying could be a breakout year for him, he sure started it off like one.

-I can't say enough about Johnny Boychuks shot, boy is it impressive.  I can see him being a fan favorite this season.

-Halak didn't have a fantastic game, but he wasn't bad at all.

-Good to see Tavares come up with a multi point night as well.

-The power play in general was pretty impressive.  If they are able to keep up even a semblance of this effectiveness, it will go a long way toward the team potentially making the playoffs this season.

-It must've been nice for Grabovski to get the first goal out of the way in game one, it was a nice shot to.  Nice setup from Ryan Strome on that play as well.

-Considering it was his NHL debut Reinhart looked pretty solid out there.  I'm excited to see what the future holds for him.

A win out of the gate is always nice.  While the third period wasn't perfect, it was definitely a step up from past years.  Instead of getting flustered and nervous when Carolina scored their early goal, the team kept up and put a few more on the board to cushion the lead.  Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come as the season progresses.

Next Game: Tomorrow Night @ Home Vs Carolina
