So, now there is potential that we traded Thomas Vanek for a middle of the road prospect. Terrible day for Garth Snow!
Update 2: According to Arthur Staple, the Islanders received a 2nd round pick not a conditional second round pick. Additionally, if Montreal makes the playoffs the Islanders will send them a 5th round pick.
I don't know how Montreal managed to pull this off but they fleeced Garth Snow, terrible job by the Islanders GM.
2nd rounder from MTL is not conditional. If Canadiens make the playoffs, #Isles send a 5th-round pick back.

Update: Reports have surface suggesting the Islanders acquired Sebastian Collberg as the prospect in this deal. In 40 games in the Swedish Elite League this season Collberg has 9 points. In the dying minutes of the deadline today the Islanders traded Thomas Vanek and a conditional draft pick to Montreal in exchange for a conditional 2014 2nd round pick and a prospect.
On the surface this appears to be pretty bad for Snow.
