Today, the New York Islanders organization is celebrating its 42nd birthday.
It was on November 8th, 1971 that the Islanders were discovered in an effort to block the rival WHA from having a team in the Nassau Coliseum. Since then the Islanders went on the become the last American hockey dynasty and won 19 straight playoff series. The last 20+ years have been pretty rough but led by John Tavares better days seem to be on the horizon.
