Tonight, the Islanders defeated the Devils by a score of 5-3 to earn their first pre season win this year. Here are some of my notes:
-Great games from Bailey and Okposo! They are looking really confident and like they have more confidence heading into this season. Hopefully, that continues!
-Thought Pedan had a solid game, used his body well!
-I thought Poulin was alright. He did have some nice moments most notably in the third period after a bad Reinhart giveaway. However, he did have some poor moments as well though.
-Reinhart has seemed pretty solid through two pre season games which is good to see.
-Why did we resign Eric Boulton? The guy is a joke and serves no purpose! He is literally a pair of fists on skates.
-Joey Diamond didn't put up the stats tonight but he seemed like he was flying around the ice out there.
-Thought Diamonds linemate Alan Quine had some brightspots as well. His performance in camp is probably going to be a key component they use when they decide where he is going to play this season. Quine was pretty mum on the issue when we interviewed him in July.
-The Lee-Nelson-Strome line combined for a pretty slick little play which ended in Lee's powerplay goal.
While the game wasn't perfect there were definitely bright spots. The fact that we could have a team of predominantly rookies go out and beat pretty much the Devils team is certainly encouraging.
Next Game: Saturday 9/21 @ The Barclays Center VS the Devils
