Nabokov Leads Isles Past Sabres 4-0

Tonight, in sort of revenge for last Saturdays loss, our Islanders defeated the Buffalo Sabres by a score of 4-0.  Here are some of my notes from the game:

-Evgeni Nabokov was amazing tonight!  He made many key big saves which kept the Sabres off the board.  He was truly the Islanders top penalty killer.

-Really liked seeing the emotion from Jack Capuano late in the game when Kaleta took a run at Mark Streit & Josh Bailey.  Where has that been the last year and a half?  Also liked that he responded with the 4th line on the next shift.  In the past coaches would've sent out the first line but Cappy sent out the fourth line to send a message.  This message coincided with Matt Martins postgame comments to Arthur Staple, "If they want to be physical around our net, we'll do it around their net. It goes both ways."  This is a more then welcomed change!

-Nice shot by Tavares on his goal!

-Nice setup by Casey Cizikas on McDonalds powerplay goal late.

-Dare I say that Marty Reasoner didn't have a bad game tonight?

-Good seeing Grabner finish a partial breakaway, hopefully this will get him on a bit of a roll again.

-Still makes zero sense to me why Okposo suits up over Ullstrom.

After tonights impressive effort, Nabby really made the coaches decision tough for tomorrow nights game.  In the end I think they start Poulin though because of Nabokovs age and Poulins good career numbers against the Hurricanes.  Tonight, the Islanders took advantage of a struggling team and they had the killer instinct they haven't shown in years past.  Tomorrow night starts a stretch of seven in a row at home.  All the players this season have been talking about making the playoffs.  If they want to make a serious run for the playoffs they need to be better then 2-6 at home, and that starts tomorrow night.

Next Game: Tomorrow Night 7PM VS Carolina MSG+ 2
