While I am thrilled that the Islanders inked Leddy for such a long time, the money is surprising to me. I always thought that Leddy would top at 4.5 AAV. For him to ask the 5.5 and the Islanders to give it to him really came as a shock to me. Additionally, it shows that the Islanders have really turned a corner as a franchise that they were willing to pay him this much. In prior years if a player asked for a contract like this, the Islanders would've either kept negotiations going deep into the summer, or simply showed him the door.
