Last night, our Islanders ended 2014 right with a 5-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets. Their victory last night gave the team a share of first place at the end of the calender year for the first time since the 87/88 season. Here are some of my notes from the game:
-You have to talk about Frans Nielsen when talking about this game. He had a huge game putting up 2 goals and an assist as well. If the Islanders are able to get him going more to the pace he put up last season, that will only further deepen an already deep team.
-Good to see Anders Lee continue to roll with another couple points. It seems like he is beginning to emerge much like Brock Nelson and Ryan Strome have this year and it is really special to watch.
-Speaking of Ryan Strome, he had the best game of his professional career last night, putting up a goal and adding 3 helpers. With the four points last night, he is now tied with Brock Nelson for third on the team in points with 27. Much like Lee and Nelson, it is really great to be able to watch them blossom night in and night out.
-Halak had a pretty solid game.
According to Eric Hornick, the team ended the 2014 calender year with 97 points which is the most they have had in a year since getting 105 in 1983. You couldn't ask for a better start to a huge road trip than a win like this. Hopefully, the Islanders are able to build on this victory as their road trip continues.
Next Game: Tomorrow 9:00 @ Calgary
