Tonight, our Islanders defeated the New Jersey Devils by a score of 3-1. Here are some of my notes from the game:
-Halak was sharp tonight to extend his unbeaten streak to 9 games. At 9 games, this is a career long streak for him passing his previous high of 8 he achieved while with the Blues. If they are able to continue with this level of play it will surely go a long way in ensuring long term success for the Islanders.
-While he wasn't named one of the three stars, impressive game by Casey Cizikas. He finished the game with two points and had some huge penalty killing work near the end of the game.
-The power play was pretty poor tonight. They had a good start to the first one tonight, however, the rest of the power play time was pretty abysmal.
-Matt Donovan has looked pretty good in his limited time this season. That is a credit to the conditioning and training he does off ice to make sure he doesn't slip out of game shape.
-The third period was concerning tonight as they were more or less dominated by the Devils. That period represented a change in the team though as in prior years the Devils likely would've scored at least one goal in this period but they failed to do so in tonights game which was the key to the Islanders victory.
After last nights loss, a win tonight was big and the team was able to come through. While their first 40 minutes were solid, the third period though was certainly not their best to say the least. The team is going to need to start getting healthy as they have a couple injured players now, and hope they are able to continue their positive momentum Tuesday from the Coliseum. They can't get complacent because in the end it will cost you, potentially big time.
Next Game: Tuesday @ Home vs Ottawa
