MGM In Talks To Bring NHL To Vegas

According to NBC Sports, executives from MGM Resorts in Las Vegas have confirmed that they are in early talks to attempt to bring an NHL team to Vegas.  It is unclear if that would be an expansion team or a relocated team.

Earlier this year, ground was broken on a 375 million dollar 20,000 seat arena.  The arena is being developed by Las Vegas Arena Co. which is owned by MGM as well as AEG who own the LA Kings.  The arena is scheduled to open in the spring of 2016.  That means it would be ready as soon as the 2016/2017 NHL season.  The arena will feature 50 luxury suites and two dozen private lodge boxes, according to a report.

With this arena and the arena in Quebec popping up, it will be interesting to see if we see anymore movement among NHL teams after seeing Atlanta bolt to Winnipeg a couple years ago.  There is also the possibility of expansion, but I think relocation is more likely.
