Team USA Goes 3-1 In Preliminary Round Of WJC

Today, team USA's World Junior team ended the preliminary round of the tournament with a 3-2 loss to Canada to bring their record to 3-1 thus far heading to the quarter finals.

If you are just beginning to pay attention to the team now some keys to look out for include:

1) The power play

Coming into their game today team USA had the top power play in the tournament having struck on over half of their power plays.  Today, they struggled in that department for the first time and it proved to be costly as Canada was able to get the winning goal on a power play of their own.

2) Grinder Line

The line of Hudson Fasching, Andrew Copp, and Devils prospect Stefan Matteau has been one of the teams most consistent lines.  They may not put up a lot of offense, but they have a ton of zone time on every shift and do their roles very well.

3) Leading by example

Team USA captain Riley Barber has managed to put up 4 goals in the four games thus far.  As one of the returning players from last years gold medal team, Barber hasn't let the pressure of being captain get to him.

Team USA has their quarterfinal game on Thursday morning at 6:00am on the NHL Network.  The game will be replayed later on in the day on the network if you miss the live broadcast.
