Isles End Homestand On A High With A Shootout Win

Tonight, our Islanders ended their three game homstand on a high note with a 5-4 shootout victory over the Red Wings.  Here are some of my notes from the game:

-Great game by Brock Nelson tonight, he is getting better and better each game.

-Casey Cizikas was a man on a mission tonight, great game by him.

-Given the kind of games Carkner has had this year, this was one of his better ones tonight.

-After struggling in the third period the other night, tonight's was a refreshing change.  Out-shooting the Wings 15-3 is the way it should be and hopefully we will see more of that as the season progresses.

-Good to get another power play goal, but the two power plays the preceded the goal weren't good.  Consistency still needs to be worked on there.

-Great job by the fans coming out tonight and nearly selling out the Coliseum.  Coming into tonight, the Islanders were 5-10-2 in their last 17 and had just blown a two goal lead the other night.

-Given the injury to Nabokov, it appears that Kevin Poulin now will be given a chance game in and game out to prove that he is the future of the Islanders in net.

-If you missed the shootout tonight you can find it below.

After Thursdays rough loss, tonight was a good way to end the homestand and send the team off on their three game road trip.  Considering how bad the last trip went, getting off to a fast start on Tuesday in Toronto would be big for the Islanders.

Next game: Tuesday 7:00 @ Toronto
