As many have speculated since Mark Streits departure in June, John Tavares is expected to be named the captain of the Islanders early next week, newsday reports.

Last season in 48 games, Tavares managed to put up 28 goals and 19 assists and played a key part in leading the Islanders to their first playoff birth since the 06/07 season.  He went on to finish third in MVP voting behind only Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.
