Tonight, our New York Islanders fell to the Winnipeg Jets by a score of 5-4 in overtime. Here are some of my notes from the game:
-Atrocious effort through the first two periods! Save for Nabokov and sometimes Ullstrom it seemed like the rest of the team wasn't there to play.
-Nice to see the first part of the third period, but once again they did what has been ever so common since Garth Snow took over as GM and blew a third period lead.
-Questionable move by Capuano keeping Reasoner in for this game over Casey Cizikas.
-The defense has to better on the first two goals! Guys got caught spinning and flat footed far to often.
-Nice to see Tavares finally get on the board, hopefully this stars a bit of a roll for him.
-Nabokov had a pretty good game and kept the Islanders in it. Although, he has to cover up the winner in overtime. No way should there have been a rebound sitting in the crease for Kane to bang in.
-For his NHL debut Hickey didn't look bad!
-Tonight I thought was Brian Straits first so so game of the young season.
Overall, since the Islanders didn't deserve to get a point because of how sloppy they played in the first 40 minutes the fact they got one is a plus. If they want to have a chance against the Penguins Tuesday they need to have a full 60 minute effort though.
Next Game: Tuesday 1/29 @ Pit on NBC Sports Network
