Tonight, our New York Islanders surprised many in the hockey world as they defeated the Penguins by a score of 4-1. Here are some of my notes from the game:
-After some bad defensive lapses over the last few games, tonight we played a very solid defensive game which was refreshing especially against a star studded team like the Penguins.
-Congrats to Casey Cizikas on his first NHL goal
-Beautiful passing on the Tavares powerplay goal, the setup from Moulson was perfectly done.
-Bad call on the Colin McDonald hit! Was it dirty? Yeah probably, was it a major and ejection worthy? No way! As Howie Rose said a couple years ago after our infamous game against the Penguins, the NHL has two sets of rules. One for the elite teams, and one for everyone else.
-Nabokov although with limited work was solid all game!
-David Ullstrom had another solid game. He continues to impress early on in this young season.
-Great efficiency from the special teams tonight, both powerplay and penalty kill were right on point. The 5 minute penalty kill at the end of the second and start of the third was a huge turning point in the game.
-Good to see Grabner finish another breakaway! Like Ullstrom hes been impressive in the young season thus far.
-Hickey had a pretty good game to, showed a good willingness to battle which is good to.
Well, who saw this coming? The Islanders didn't just win, they dominated one of the better teams in the eastern conference for a majority of this game. They need to build on the momentum gained tonight against the Devils on Thursday.
Next Game: The road trip concludes @ New Jersey On Thursday night
