Pens Give Isles A Reality Check In 5-0 Win

Tonight, in their first playoff game in six years the Islanders were defeated 5-0 by the Penguins.  Here are some of my notes:

-Well, the downward spiral that started after the Toronto game a couple weeks ago continued tonight.  Hopefully, it was just nerves as this was the first playoff game for most of the people on the roster.  If they don't come out with a better effort Friday night, we could be in some trouble.

-Not sure exactly why Capuano thought it would be a good idea to play Reasoner tonight, faceoffs which are a key attribute with him weren't great.  Although, pretty sure his major at the end of the game shocked at least half off all Islanders fans. (more on this above)

-Thought Casey Cizikas had a pretty good game

-Nabby wasn't at his best tonight, but he didn't get much help either.  The fourth goal was terrible defense in front of him.

-Poulin did play pretty well though which is encouraging.

-The refs weren't great tonight, but when playing the Penguins that isn't exactly headlining news.

Well, it was clear from the word go that the Islanders weren't ready to play tonight.  The Penguins being the more veteran team sensed that and took advantage of that and gave the Islanders a hard dose of reality.  The key will be how they start game two on Friday.  If they come out slow again that would be very concerning, but if they come out flying and and playing their game and are able to score and get that monkey off their backs we will have a series on our hands.

Next Game: Friday 7:00PM @ Pittsburgh
